SEER Ratings:
The SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) rating indicates the overall efficiency of an air conditioner or heat pump. The higher the SEER rating, the greater the energy efficiency. The minimum SEER rating for air conditioners is 13. Most modern systems range from 13 to 21 SEER. To qualify as ENERGY STAR® rated, an air conditioner must have a SEER rating of 14.5 or higher.
